Amaroo Blondes

Amaroo Blondes produces quality Blonde d'Aquitaine bulls and females supplying both commercial and stud producers.

Amaroo Blondes aims to produce fast growing, moderately framed Blondes which are quiet, structurally correct, and carry positive fat cover. We believe the combination of heavy muscle with softness will produce the perfect beef carcase.

Amaroo Blondes is situated in Mundijong Western Australia some 40km south of Perth. Managed by Gerald and Nelie Bergsma, Amaroo has been stud breeding beef cattle since 1985 and commenced breeding Blonde d’Aquitaine cattle in 1995.

Amaroo has always used top quality genetics to build quality into cattle, using both artificial insemination and embryo transfer as tools for greater genetic gain. All calves are temperament scored at weaning with strict culling applied to cattle that are nervous or bad tempered. This process over the last five years has ensured that our cattle are genetically quiet.

Breeding softness into the heavily muscled Blonde cattle is also a stud objective. With the industry requiring softness in Euro cattle, we have selected breeders showing softness and have used high fat cover bulls over the past 10 years, Gerald said.

The stud uses Breedplan and EBVs as a tool to select sires and dams for the breeding program. Daily weight gains and weight ratios are also used to select and identify superior performers.
